My Favorite Jokes From r/circlejerk — R.I.P.

Reddit is great — the community does a great job of sparking fascinating conversation, providing great content and making sure most bullshit doesn’t make it to the front page (e.g., Digg). However, the community definitely adheres to a pretty strict hivemind mentality where if you’re not a liberal atheist neckbeard who plans on voting for Ron Paul your opinion is often met with a swarm of downvotes, the equivalent of being kicked in the balls.

However, there lies within Reddit, a community of people even more cynical than me. Sort of a place where the biggest assholes of the Reddit community can come and mock all the other people who post their favorite stories in an attempt to collect some of that sweet, sweet karma.

But today, the evil karmanaut BANNED the subreddit because he was jealous of how much karma it was getting. How rude.

Here are some of my favorite jokes that show up daily in r/circlejerk

  1. Citing positive and “reddit-friendly” things as being said by Ron Paul

"I will adopt all shelter kittens if I'm elected president"

  2. Citing negative and “reddit-hated” things as being said by Rick Santorum
  3. Hailing the almighty Carl Sagan or Neil deGrasse Tyson as being our supreme overlords
  4. Saying “This.” ironically mocking entirely useless content
  5. Calling something “So brave.” after someone makes an otherwise “non-reddit controversial” comment
  6. Remixing a clearly fictional and highly sensationalized “AskReddit” title
  7. Making accusations about 9/11 being an inside job and finding a way to loosely related it to a random number or Republican politician. Bonus points for calling everyone “sheeple.”
  8. “Liek dis if it mak u kry 4eva”
  9. TIL x is LITERALLY french for y
  10. Mocking the upvote system and the absolutely worthless points awarded for top comments and front page posts. UPVOTES TO THE LEFT. TWEETS TO THE RIGHT.

And while I am perfectly convinced this current “ban” is a complete joke. I’m still missing it immensely and hope that Neil Patrick Harris will one day be promoted to mod of the subreddit.
